Cyclist crashes into ‘mountain of manure’ as commentator left in stitches

Tour de Manure anyone?

It seems AG2R Citroen Team cyclist Stan Dewulf has already completed it after hurtling off the road in the Grand Prix de Denain race in France. And safe to say his crash would have left a bad taste in the mouth, not to mention a very bad smell to boot.

The annual professional road race in France was won by UAE Team Emirates star Juan Sebastian Molano. But it was the misfortune of Dewulf, rather than the display of the Colombian, that was the main talking point afterwards.

Not only did the Belgian career off the road, but he was given a cushioned landing her certainly didn't ask for as he piled into mounds of roadside dung. And GCN Racing commentator Jode Been could barely contain her amusement as the stinking action unfolded.

"Ooh that is going to be smelly" she exclaimed, while laughing on air. "That is going to be one smelly crash there from the AG2R rider – going straight into that mountain of manure!"

The GCN Racing Twitter account also saw the funny side, posting the footage with the caption: "Luckily @Stan_Dewulf1 had a soft landing when crashing at #GPDenain today…manure! That’s one smelly crash for the @AG2RCITROENTEAM rider!

Followers also lauded the footage, with @paininc saying: "What a s***** way to lose a race. #dadjokes #cycling," while @PPAmberHerd praised the star's resilience: "The 2022-23 season and how to deal with it. Yes he flies headlong into a pile of s***, but he picks himself up and carries on."

@bpgmultisports added: "Oh yes, the charm and smells of the countryside….." and @kil0ran joked he was already dressed for such a mishap, posting: "Well, he already had brown shorts."

The single day race has been running since 1959. However, none of the thousands of riders to compete in the 64 years have been reported to have crashed into manure, at least giving Dewulf, 25, a unique place in the event's history.
