Female golfer has moment to forget as she falls over advertising boards

Golf star Chloe Williams endured a moment to forget while competing on the Ladies European Tour over the weekend, after falling over advertising boards on the tee. Williams was out in Thailand competing in the Aramco Team Series event when the tumble occurred.

While standing on the sixth tee at the Thai Country Club the 27-year-old went through her pre-shot routine ahead of her tee shot into the par three green. What came next though left Williams red-faced as she stepped back from her ball before tumbling over the advertising boards.

Lay on her back with her legs and club dangling in the air, Williams looked to style out her embarrassing fall as her playing partners and caddies burst into hysterics around her.

The 27-year-old herself clearly saw the funny side after joining the rest of her group in having a laugh at her expense. Playing partner Lydia Hall headed over to help Williams out, while Hall’s caddie – still laughing – pointed out to the Welsh star that the fall was caught by the TV cameras.

As well as being captured by the TV cameras it seemed the photographers surrounding the tee caught a shot of the tumble as well, and Williams – after brushing herself down – was keen to have a look. Standing next to a photographer, the 27-year-old chuckled as she viewed the pictures.

After noticing her tumble had also been caught on TV, Williams comically gave a thumbs up to the green side camera operator indicating that all was fine despite the fall. Her moment of embarrassment didn’t seem to hamper her though as she dusted herself before going on to make a par.

Williams had time to talk through her fall during an interview mid-round. Laughing, she said: “Sorry I’ve only just seen this! Sorry, that is brilliant. In my defence, it has been there all week but the thing I stumbled into is brown!”

She added: “Honestly, it is just brilliant. You know what, at least I can contribute with some fun to the group in the day. I knew that they [her playing partners] were in hysterics whilst I was over the ball and to be fair I couldn’t believe how quickly I could compose myself. Then I flushed it and made par! I said to the girls ‘that has got to be one of the best pars I’ve ever made in history’.”
