The NFL announced that the Green Bay Packers are finally coming over to the United Kingdom to face the New York Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London this October – and fans are already desperate for tickets.
The match between the Packers and the Giants is one of three regular season games set to be staged in London this upcoming season. The teams will meet at Tottenham Stadium on Sunday 9 October, while the Minnesota Vikings play the New Orleans Saints on 2 October at the same venue.
The Jacksonville Jaguars play the Denver Broncos at London's Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 30 October, while a regular season game is also being played in Germany for the first time. Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the Seattle Seahawks at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena on 13 November.
London has already staged 30 regular-season games since the first was held in the city in 2007, pitting the Giants against the Miami Dolphins. The Packers are the last of the 32 NFL franchises to play an international regular season match, and tickets are expected to be hard to come by given the popularity of the team.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers became a four-time NFL MVP winner when he claimed the award for the second successive year in February. He then ended speculation he might leave the franchise – with whom he has spent the entirety of his career since being drafted in 2005 – by singing a lucrative contract extension.
Several fans took to social media to voice their hope for tickets to the Packers’ clash with the Giants. Phil (@KirkMagic) appeared to understand how popular the match will be, writing: “Those Giants, Packers tickets are going to be like goldust.”
RJ (@rj_afc) wrote: “Giants vs Packers, what a game. Tickets prices gonna be disgusting tho” – while Junior (@sxquon) tweeted that he is praying he gets tickets to the London match. Grant Cameron (@grantybear) is in a similar boat: “Giants Packers in London on my birthday weekend, just gotta pray I get tickets now.”

A rather more desperate fan showcased the weight of his desire to attend the match. Charlie (@charliehep16) wrote: “Mate if I don’t get tickets for the packers game I will die.”
The full 2022 Packers schedule will be announced in conjunction with the NFL schedule release on May 12. The prices of tickets are yet to be determined, and they are expected to go on sale in the summer.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the largest football club stadium in London, with a capacity of 62,850. It is a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting a wide range of events throughout the year, and is the first purpose-built NFL stadium outside of the United States.
Previously, the Packers have played internationally during the preseason on three occasions: Toronto in 1997, Tokyo in 1998 and Winnipeg in 2019. Last year, as part of the League's expansion of the regular season to 17 games, it was determined that up to four of the teams from the conference whose teams were eligible for a ninth regular-season home game would instead be designated to play a neutral-site international game each year.
