Squid Game’s director has hit back at LeBron James for his verdict on the show's finale after voicing his frustration at the end of a recent press conference.
Prior to the start of the new NBA season, the LA Lakers star was discussing the final episode with teammate Anthony Davis after speaking with the press.
The Bleacher Report posted a video of the pair exchanging a quick word regarding Squid Game, with LeBron telling his mate he’d just finished it, but was not impressed with the ending.
“Yep I did finish it, did you finish it? You watched it? You done?” the four-time champion asked when quizzed on Squid Game by his fellow teammate.
He added: “Yeah, I didn’t like the ending though. No, I know they started off with a season two but like, get on the f**king flight, go see your daughter, bro. Like, what are you doing?”
“You won some 45 billion bro, bro What the f**k. It’s not my problem, you won the game.”
South Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk has now hit back at the basketball legend’s comments, even taking a swipe at his performance in Space Jam 2.
“Have you seen Space Jam 2?” he told The Guardian.
Do you agree with LeBron James' view of Squid Game's finale? Let us know in the comments section.
“LeBron James is cool and can say what he wants. I respect that. I’m very thankful he watched the whole series.”
He then said cheekily: "But I wouldn’t change my ending. That’s my ending. If he has his own ending that would satisfy him, maybe he could make his own sequel.
"I’ll check it out and maybe send him a message saying, ‘I liked your whole show, except the ending.’”
Within a week of its release, the Korean hit series became one of Netflix's most-watched programmes in several regional markets.
Within its first 28 days of availability, it drew more than a whopping 111 million viewers, surpassing Bridgerton as the network's most-watched show.
