Four of the past six MVP awards convene in Milwaukee when Stephen Curry’s Warriors challenge Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks on Christmas Day.
Golden State hopes to return to playoff prominence after a rough 2019-20 season, plagued by injuries to Curry and Klay Thompson, left the Warriors with the second pick in the NBA Draft. Golden State selected Memphis’ James Wiseman with the pick, and the big man could very well play his way into the starting lineup early in the season. Thompson will again miss the entire season after tearing his Achilles tendon in an offseason workout, but the Warriors traded for Kelly Oubre from Phoenix to help fill Thompson’s void.
The Bucks were busy in the abbreviated offseason trying to keep their two-time reigning MVP satisfied. Milwaukee acquired Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Pelicans and thought to have signed Bogdan Bogdanovic before the league nullified the deal due to tampering and later docked the Bucks a 2020 second-round draft pick. The Holiday acquisition was apparently enough, as Giannis signed a supermax deal to keep him in Milwaukee for the foreseeable future.
