Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk share intense stare down ahead of title clash

Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk shared an intense stare-down at their final press conference ahead of Saturday’s world heavyweight title showdown.

IBF, WBO and WBA champion Joshua puts his titles on the line against the undefeated Ukrainian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Dressed in a red suit, Usyk predicted a chess match between the two during their calm and respectful exchanges, dismissing suggestions that tJoshua carries a size and power advantage heading into the contest.

‘People talk a lot. They say the truth, or they don’t say the truth. It’s all talk,’ he said.

‘We will see on Saturday what happens.

‘The power is not about whether someone is big or small. It’s in your spirit.

Usyk is regarded as one of the best cruiserweight fighters of all time having unified the division in 2018 but fights at heavyweight for just the third time on Saturday.

Like Joshua, he won Olympic gold at London 2012 to cap a stunning amateur career with Joshua prepared to head into deep waters against a man many view his toughest challenge since toppling another Ukrainian in Wladimir Klitschko.

‘I wasn’t on the amateur scene long enough to know much about Oleksandr but when I turned professional I did a lot of research and I love the Ukrainian style and the Ukrainian people,’ the champion said.

‘He was fighting 10 or 12 years as an amateur before he went to the Olympics, and worlds so he is probably happy to be in this position – the cream always rises to the top.

‘I love throwback fighters. I do watch a lot of boxing and I don’t fight good people just to get respect.

‘If you tell me I was fighting King Kong I would give it a go. This is my job. I’m going to work. It’s the best days of my life.’
