Chris Eubank spent a staggering £20,000 over the course of six days in Paris – and then asked Barry Hearn to pay the bill, the Matchroom chairman revealed.
Former middleweight Eubank worked with Hearn and his promotions company throughout his successful professional career.
Known for his extravagant personality, Eubank was offered a trip to Paris after a fight in 1989 against Les Wisniewski – and more than took advantage of his promoter’s generosity.

‘Once he fought Les Wisniewski [in 1989] on ITV at Brentwood Centre, it wasn’t much of a fight, but we did OK, sold a few tickets, we made a few pounds, and it was a good performance,’ Hearn exclusively told The Gary Newbon Sports Show.
‘I said to him after the fight: “Tell you what Chris, you’ve done well, treat yourself, I’m treating you to a weekend in Paris. You and your wife, or then girlfriend, go to Paris, I’ve booked a nice room for you at the George V, you’ll fly business class, have a weekend on me.”
‘He came back, after longer than a weekend, about six days, and gave me a bill for just over £20,000! I said “what’s that?!”
‘He said “well the room you gave me wasn’t the best suite so I upgraded and you didn’t provide any transport Baz, so I hired a white Rolls-Royce and a driver 24 hours a day, and I lived rather lavishly!”
Hearn admits that Eubank was ‘something special’, both inside and outside the boxing ring
‘I said “it’s impossible to spend £20,000” and he said “you gave me the rope and I hung you!”
‘He was such an amazing guy and I said “I’m not paying this, shall we go 50/50?” and he said “yes, that’s acceptable!” So it only cost me 10 grand, but he was something special.’
Eubank, father to current pro boxer Chris Eubank Jr., fought 52 times, winning 45 times, losing five times and drawing twice in a career when he held the WBO middleweight and super-middleweight titles between 1990 and 1995.
