Disfigured female boxer Miriam Gutierrez has given a fresh update on her condition after receiving 236 punches to the face during her bout with Amanda Serrano.

The Florida Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees the boxing commission, stated earlier this week that the 38-year-old may never fight professionally again owing to the extent of her injuries.

But in a new Instagram post on Christmas Eve, Gutierrez insisted she is doing "well" and wished her followers a very Merry Christmas.

It read: "Family have a great day and merry Christmas !!! I can only say 1 thing !! With all the people who speak and more not knowing!

"This is boxing and above all it is #noble and #repetuous where I see myself reflected and before my rival @serranosisters it is true that he has #bombas in his hands!!

"But I never give up !!! I'm fine !!!! Very well ! But by God before making destructive criticisms and being so miserable !!! Think before you focus and release news!

"Thank you very much for all the messages of support! I'm fine NO !!!!! VERYYYYYY GOOD!!! And my team always."

Gutierrez had been expected to lose against seven-weight world champion Serrano, but no-one could have predicted the scale of the beating.

Serrano totally dominated the ten-round bout, landing an incredible 237 punches to secure a unanimous decision from the judges who scored the contest 99-91, 99-90, 100-90.

After the fight, images of Gutierrez's disfigured face went viral on social media.

Humbled by the sheer class of her opponent, Serrano later expressed her respect for Gutierrez and how she conducted herself in the ring.

She said: "I want to thank my dance partner Miriam Gutierrez. She didn’t come to lay down.

"I don’t care who is in front of me, I’m not coming to play! She just told me she weighed 160lbs today. Thank god I worked with my girl Nisa Rodriguez who was at 165lbs."

"She’s a tough fighter. She did say she was in better shape this time than when she fought Katie Taylor because she had a year layoff.

"Now, she just had a fight last month that she won. I fought the best Miriam Gutierrez and I beat her."
