Eddie Hearn’s net worth is only half the size of boxing rival Jake Paul’s

Offbeat news from the world of sport

Eddie Hearn is widely considered to be the biggest promoter in boxing right now – but his net worth is reportedly dwarfed by that of rival Jake Paul.

The YouTube sensation has grown beyond the platform and taken huge steps into the sport in 2021, both in and out of the ring. Paul banked millions from defeating Ben Askren and former UFC champion Tyron Woodley twice, and has now established his own label with Most Valuable Promotions.

It is through that venture that the pair have been brought together to promote Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano's undisputed showdown at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Paul has represented Serrano for almost a year, and shook hands on $1million (£797,000) bet with Hearn backing his client in what has been dubbed the biggest boxing match in women's history.

Hearn's work through Matchroom Sport has seen him represent some of boxing's biggest names including Canelo Alvarez, Anthony Joshua and current WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The 42-year-old has struck lucrative broadcast deals with Sky Sports and current partner DAZN, and reports estimate his net wealth stands around £45m.

A tidy sum no doubt, but this figure is overshadowed by Paul's impressive earnings to date. The YouTube personality raked in an estimated £32m from his victorious fights alone, and has explained this has supplemented brand and sponsorship deals, as well as Cryptocurrency and 'NFT' investments which combine to put his net worth beyond the £80m mark.

Paul previously told Fox Business: ""That is just what I made from boxing [$40 million]. I made some more on top of that from brand deals and advertisements.

"That is not including my crypto investments, NFT investments, Metaverse investments. If I were to cash out, yeah I have probably made an extra $60 million on top of that just from my investments last year if I were to liquidate it.

"I put money into Bitcoin when I was sixteen years old but I am a long term holder so I can add to the retirement fund. I have my team at Morgan Stanley and they handle all this stuff. I am more into the Crypto side of things and they tell me what kind of traditional stocks I can put into."
