Perhaps the greatest UFC fighter of all time, Nurmagomedov stepped away from the sport at age of 32.

His decision to retire from the sport was confirmed by Dana White in March 2021 when he tweeted: "29-0 it is.

"He is 100 officially retired. It was incredible to watch you work Khabib. Thank you for EVERYTHING and enjoy whatever is next my friend."

He announced his plans to step away from the octagon in October 2020 following his victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, shocking the fight sports world and met in places with disbelief.

Why did Khabib Nurmagomedov retire?

Khabib Nurmagomedov – nicknamed ‘The Eagle’ – was struck by tragedy in July 2020 when his father died due to Covid-related complications.

Also his coach, dad Abdulmanap’s death was understood to be a key part of Khabib’s choice to leave the sport.

He spoke with his mother three days before he took the Gaethje fight, but once the bout was over, he said: "Today, this was my last fight. Ain't no way I'm going to come here without my father."

This astonishing number comes as no surprise, with the man from Dagestan regarded as one of the best and most successful fighters to ever grace UFC, pulling in huge pay per views and sitting at the top of some of the biggest cards in recent UFC history.

Khabib Nurmagomedov had an incredible career fight record of 29 wins and zero losses.

The five-foot-ten man has claimed eight of those wins through knockout and 11 through submission.

Ten of his wins were earned through the judges’ decisions. In UFC he finished with an astonishing record of 13-0.

What does Khabib Nurmagomedov do now?

Despite being retired from the octagon himself, Khabib Nurmagomedov remains a part of the MMA world.

He bought the Gorilla Fighting Championship in late 2020, which he then changed the name of to match his old fighting title.

In 2021 he announced he planned to expand his UFC promotion, now Eagle FC, into the US – the first event having taken place in January of this year.

In its third year of operation, Eagle Fight Championship continues to operate events in the US, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
