Logan Paul’s sparring partner offers ‘interesting’ Mayweather prediction

Logan Paul’s sparring partner Vlad Panin has backed the YouTube sensation to cause an upset when taking on Floyd Mayweather in a six-round fight next month.

The pair are set to go head-to-head on February 20, with Paul re-entering the ring for the first time since suffering a split decision loss to KSI in November 2019.

Mayweather, whose previous exhibition bout came with Japanese kick-boxer Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018, is the overwhelming favourite to come out on top as he looks to preserve his undefeated record.

But Panin, who last fought in June, does not anticipate a comprehensive victory for Mayweather as he delivered his prediction for the fight.

“I was kind of surprised. I mean, he has got a good jab, he could box from a distance. He has got good control of range and has got good natural instincts,” the 25-year-old welterweight told Pro Boxing Fans.

“I don’t think Floyd stops him, it’s only a 6-round fight. So yeah, I think, it would be pretty interesting.”

Explaining how he came into contact with Paul to begin his preparations for facing Mayweather, Panin added:

“I was sparring a few months back, Logan’s trainer was there and he came up to my coach. After we got out of the ring and he was like, ‘Hey do you guys want to spar Logan Paul? We need someone that looks like Floyd.’

“And this is when the rumours had just started coming about and I was like, ‘Wait, what, they are actually fighting. Is this real?

“I was like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe it was real’. So then when I got announced later, like a month or two after that.

“They asked if I could come in and you know I started working with him and helping him out. You know, just giving him that shoulder roll look and just similar styles to what he is going to see.”
