American heavyweight Charles Martin is ready to REPLACE Anthony Joshua in world title fight with Kubrat Pulev if British star withdraws due to injury
- Antony Joshua is set to take on Kubrat Pulev in either October or November
- Joshua appeared at a Black Lives Matter protest at the weekend in a knee brace
- Promoter Eddie Hearn has said Joshua will be able to fight when required
- But Charles Martin’s camp have said he will be ready to go if Joshua pulls out
American heavyweight Charles Martin will be ready to take Anthony Joshua’s place should the world champion pull out of his fight against Kubrat Pulev.
Joshua is scheduled to fight Pulev in either October or November this year.
There was concern, however, when Joshua was pictured at a Black Lives Matter protest in Watford wearing a knee brace.

While Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said the fight isn’t under threat, Martin, who was knocked out by Joshua when they met at the O2 Arena in 2016, would be prepared to stand in at the last minute if he needed to.
He is also under the impression that because the fight is mandatory, Joshua’s IBF world heavyweight title would become vacant if he has to pull out.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Leon Margules, president of Warriors Boxing who represent Martin, said: ‘If Joshua is injured and can’t defend on a mandatory basis, and the title becomes vacant, we’ll fight Pulev for the vacant title.

‘Charles Martin is fit, ready and waiting for that opportunity. We’ve been waiting for the opportunity for a long time.’
Margules added: ‘We were actually reading all about Joshua-Fury, and then thinking to ourselves that the IBF would then vacate the IBF title, because he didn’t do his mandatory. He’s already had exceptions.
‘We would then demand the IBF vacate the title and allow Pulev to fight for Joshua’s vacant title.
‘I think Charles could beat Pulev. I think Charles could beat Joshua if they fought again.
‘I think Charles is a totally different fighter today than he was when he went over and fought Joshua.’
