Most violent UFC fight ever sees both men rushed to hospital after brutal bout

Justin Gaethje came out on top in one of the most brutal UFC fights in recent memory against Michael Chandler on Saturday night.

Gaethje, who was looking to bounce back after suffering defeat at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov in October of last year, played his part in an all-time classic with Chandler at UFC 268 before having his hand raised.

The pair went toe to toe in an incredible three-round war, slugging it out relentlessly and somehow both making it to the final bell.

In the end it was Gaethje who earned the unanimous decision thanks to two scores of 29-28 and one of 30-27, but Chandler has also emerged with credit aplenty for contributing to one of the most violent battles in UFC history.

Both men were taken to hospital after the contest as a precaution, encapsulating the slugfest they produced at Madison Square Garden.

Fans were quick to wax lyrical about the fight on Twitter, with one writing: "Michael Chandler vs Justin Gaethje was so violent it made me emotional".

Another commented: "Justin Gaethje’s only regret after 15 minutes of pure violence with one of the most powerfully violent men on the planet was that it had not been to the death #UFC268".

A third said: "Most violent guys on planet. I was Gaethje fan but now I'm Chandler fan too. Chandler is tough AF".

While one even concluded: "Yeah Gaethje Chandler may have been the most violent fight I have ever seen".

Gaethje was full of praise for Chandler after their memorable showdown in New York, branding his lightweight rival a "warrior".

“I knew exactly what that motherf***** was. He is a warrior," he said.

“We are living in the wrong times. Me and him should have been fighting to the death in the f****** Coliseum.”

Gaethje is now in line for a shot at the UFC Lightweight crown, meaning he will turn his attention to the upcoming bout between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 in December.

“Hopefully it’s Oliveira down in Brazil or Poirier in Louisiana, I don’t give a f***,” he declared.

“I’m ranked No.2 . I just got an impressive win. Of course, who else? D.C. (Daniel Cormier) ain’t out here so I’m the only motherf***** left.”
