Mike Tyson's boxing career has been littered with controversial moments, with countless examples of Iron Mike's short fuse getting the better of him.
However, the former heavyweight world champion is arguably at his calmest when caring for his collection of beloved pet pigeons.
Having owned his first pigeon at around nine-years-old, Tyson is now understood to have a collection of up to 1,000 birds which he holds very close to his heart.
So much is his affection for the birds, that he has often lost his head over altercations involving his pigeons, including once dumping a girlfriend and fighting a binman.
Therefore, here are three examples of times that Mike Tyson lost it over his pet pigeons.
Dumping his girlfriend
Tyson revealed in 2013 that he had to split up with a former partner after she had insisted that they eat one of his prized pets.
When asked if he had ever eaten one he told radio show Boomer & Carton that: "I tried. I was dating this young lady and she said, 'I don’t know why you’re flying those damn birds, you should be eating them.'
"She happened to grab one and — and she cooked one and proceeded to eat it. And I just couldn’t do it."
Although he did not stop her from cooking and eating the pigeon, he added: "That’s why she’s not my woman anymore."
Knocking out a binman
Having awoken one morning to find one of his pigeons had died overnight, Tyson's plans to honour the bird were disrupted by a binman.
"One morning I woke up and found my favourite pigeon, Julius, had died. I was devastated and was going to use his crate as my stickball bat to honour him," revealed Tyson.
"I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher.
"I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like an infantile retard."
Getting in his first fight
That was not the first time that Tyson resorted to violence to resolve a situation relating to one of his pigeons, having previously revealed his first fight was due to a pigeon.
As a kid, Tyson watched on as a bully took one of his pigeons and ripped its head off in front of him, causing an angry response from a young Iron Mike.
He reflected on the incident in 2013, explaining: "The guy ripped the head off my pigeon. This was the first thing I ever loved in my life, the pigeon.
"That was the first time I threw a punch. I have loved pigeons since I was nine. They were my escape."
