Tyson Fury signs contract on live TV to face Deontay Wilder for the third time

Tyson Fury has signed the contract to face Deontay Wilder on July 24 in Las Vegas.

The Gypsy King put pen to paper live on ESPN ahead of Josh Taylor’s clash with Jose Ramirez in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It comes just seven days after WBC champion Fury claimed the undisputed clash with Anthony Joshua was “100 per cent on” for August 14.

But the final details of that fight were not agreed at the time.

And on Monday night, Daily Star Sport exclusively revealed the Joshua fight was in serous danger of not happening.

That was because a US judge had ruled on Monday that Wilder was owed a third fight.

Fury ruthlessly beat the American in February 2020 but there was a rematch clause in the contract.

Wilder triggered that clause in March 2020 but COVID-19, injuries and TV clashes delayed it happening.

Fury thought he could move on without facing Wilder again but a lengthy arbitration procedure decided he could not.

The rematch contract means the purse is split 60/40 in Fury’s favour.

Wilder will earn a minimum of around £14m for the third fight while Fury will pocket just over £20m at least.

Both purses could be further increased if pay-per-view sales and tickets go beyond the numbers expected.

The venue has not been confirmed yet but the Allegiant Stadium has been booked by Bob Arum, Fury’s US promoter.

The stadium is the home of NFL side, the Las Vegas Raiders.

Alabama puncher Wilder signed the contract on Friday.

Fury flew into Las Vegas on Saturday to attend Taylor’s clash with Ramirez at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas.

He signed the contract backstage at the venue before the main event.

Fury said: “Wilder, contract is signed and you’re getting smashed.

“You’re getting knocked out in one round.

“I’ve got your soul, your mojo, you’re getting super smashed.”
