UFC star who foiled thief assaulting woman killed by bus after training session
Former UFC fighter Felipe Colares was tragically killed on Monday after the 29-year-old was hit by a bus.
The Brazil-born talent was reportedly on his way home from a training session in Rio de Janeiro when disaster struck. He's survived by his wife, Jaqueline, and a 10-month-old son.
It's understood Colares was attended to by the local fire department on the scene. He was then rushed to Hospital Rocha Faria but died on the way.

Colares previously made headlines in January when he single-handedly stopped a thief who had allegedly assaulted a woman in Rio. He put his Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills to good use as he apprehended the criminal, non-violently restraining him until police arrived on the scene.
The mixed martial artist's good nature came to light as a result of the incident, with Colares using the exposure as a chance to promote his self-defence class for women.
“I work in a government project called Empoderadas (Empowered), which fights any kind of violence against women," Colares said at the time. “I [teach] prevention techniques and verbalization to avoid it."
Tributes flooded in for Colares after news of his death broke, with MMA journalist Aaron Bronsteter calling his death "such a tragic loss at just 29 years of age."
'Cabocao' spent three years on the UFC's books between 2019 and 2022 before he was released. He won just two of his six fights in the Octagon but was undefeated in bouts held outside the UFC.
His sole victories during that spell in the world's leading MMA organisation came against Domingo Pilarte and Luke Sanders, both via decision.
The former Jungle Fight featherweight champion ended his time in the UFC with back-to-back defeats against Chris Gutierrez and Chase Hooper.
However, he bounced back to winning ways with a first-round submission against Alioune Nahaye this past February after joining Ares FC.
