- Frampton labelled Fury a ‘novice’ and says Paul has timed the fight perfectly
Carl Frampton has backed Jake Paul to beat Tommy Fury in the pair’s upcoming bout because the YouTube novice is fighting his Love Island rival ‘at the right time’.
Paul, 24, will meet Fury, 22, in Tampa, Florida on December 18 with plenty at stake as the American faces an opponent with a genuine boxing background for the first time in his career.
‘The Problem Child’ has won all four of his professional bouts, defeating two mixed martial artists, a basketball player and a fellow YouTuber.

Fury – brother of heavyweight champion Tyson – presents a big step up, but is also relatively inexperienced with just seven professional wins against journeymen thus far.
And former three-weight world champion Frampton has claimed that Paul has the edge over Fury in their eight-round exhibition as he has selected the 22-year-old ‘at the right time’.
‘To be honest, I don’t really know much about them,’ Frampton told talkSPORT.
‘I’ve seen Jake Paul, little highlights of him. I’ve seen Tommy Fury, I was actually working for BT for one of his fights as a pundit. I think that if you put a gun to my head, I think I fancy Jake Paul in that fight, if I’m being honest.
The boxing novices will finally settle their rivalry in an eight-round contest in December
And Frampton believes Paul has chosen to take on ‘novice’ Fury ‘at the right time’ in Florida
‘Although he’s very, very new to boxing, he’s alright. He can box a bit. Yet to fight a proper boxer, but I think he’s been very careful with the opponents he does pick and I think Tommy Fury, a novice professional – let’s call a spade a spade, that’s what he is, a very novice professional with a lot to learn – I think he’s [Paul] getting him at the right time.
‘I would probably edge Paul in that fight. I don’t like to say it because I don’t know how good that looks on boxing if he beats an actual boxer. I would edge him in the fight though.’
Fury enters his December contest with huge pressure on his shoulders, after Paul claimed that the Briton would be required to change his name to ‘Tommy Fumbles’ if he loses to his American rival. Frank Warren says this is not the case.
The Love Island star, however, is confident that he will teach Paul ‘a serious lesson’ when they finally settle their feud in the Sunshine State.
‘Jake Paul is about to learn a serious life lesson,’ he said. ‘This is my world and he doesn’t belong here. I’m not one of these MMA men or basketball players.
‘I have been boxing my whole life. I will show the world the difference between a YouTuber and a real fighting man.’
