Masters weather updates: Will rain in Augusta forecast delay Thursday’s Round 1?

Fans hoping for four uninterrupted days of golf at the 2020 Masters may have rain on their parade.

That’s because weather forecasts predict a healthy dose of rain in Augusta, Ga., this week, including a 100 percent chance during the tournament’s opening round at Augusta National. The tournament is already dealing with fewer hours of daylight than normal thanks to COVID-19 moving it from April to November; considering a 5:26 p.m. sunset, any delays of significance could potentially push the tournament beyond Sunday.

The Masters has already made an effort to make the most of the time it has available, including staggering starts on Holes 1 and 10 (as opposed to letting all participants start on Hole 1). But any amount of rain could further alter the schedule of “A Tradition Unlike Any Other.”

With that, here’s everything you need to know about weather conditions around Augusta as the Masters tees off:

Masters weather updates 2020

6 a.m. ET: As it stands now, the Masters is slated to start on time at 7 a.m. ET on Thursday. It’s likely golfers will try to play through light rain, but downpours or thunderstorms — which are expected, on and off, throughout Round 1 — would force a pause in play. It’s also likely conditions will be just good enough at the start of the tournament to play in wet (and. therefore soft) conditions.

This section will be updated with any updates, reports or pauses that occur as a result of inclement weather.
