- Rory McIlroy withdraws from this week’s PGA Tour stop without explanation
- The Northern Irishman disappointingly missed out on a place at the Masters
- He is scheduled to next play at the Wells Fargo Championship early next month
Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from this week’s PGA Tour stop in South Carolina, just days after missing the cut at the Masters.
The Northern Irishman has not spoken publicly since his crushing disappointment at Augusta, where he had been among the favourites for the green jacket.
He had been due to return at the RBC Heritage, which begins on Thursday, but the PGA Tour announced on Monday he had pulled out. No explanation was given.
McIlroy cut a shellshocked figure as his bid to win golf’s grand slam was ended for another year. He has been in exceptional form for most of the past year, but was horribly out of sorts at the one major he is yet to win.
He is next due to play at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina on May 4.
