Fantasy football managers might have a reason to take Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew: free beer

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew isn't exactly a name on the minds of most fantasy football managers.

Anybody who might be thirsty could have a change of heart.

Bud Light announced Tuesday that anybody who picks Minshew in the first round of their fantasy football draft will have a chance to enter to win a case worth of the beer. And any team to win their league championship with Minshew as the starting quarterback will have a chance to win a season's worth of Bud Light.

Managers can enter the sweepstakes by taking a screenshot of the first pick of their fantasy draft of Minshew and posting it on social media with the hashtag #BudLightMinshewDraft and #Sweepstakes.

ALL-RISK TEAM: Cardinals' backfield full of boom-or-bust fantasy potential

“After the stats I put up last season, I deserve to be taken in the first round of every Fantasy Football draft,” Minshew said in a press release. “But now that Bud Light’s kicking in the chance to win beer money if you pick me…there’s going to be a lot of happy fantasy general managers this season.”

While Minshew did put up solid numbers in his rookie season, when he claimed the starting quarterback role for the Jaguars, it might be a risky move to invest a first-round selection in the 24 year old. Based on their usage, running backs like Christian McCaffrey of the Panthers, Ezekiel Elliott of the Cowboys and Saquon Barkley of the Giants, are typically favored in leagues. High-volume receivers like Michael Thomas of the Saints, DeAndre Hopkins of the Cardinals and Julio Jones of the Falcons typically follow.

Within ESPN's fantasy football leagues, Minshew is getting selected with an average draft position of 168. By comparison, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is getting selected at an average position of 15.6, while reigning league-MVP Lamar Jackson of the Ravens is coming off the board at 16.9.

In 14 games last season, Minshew completed 60.6% of his passes for 3,271 yards and 21 touchdowns with six interceptions. On the ground, Minshew also ran the ball 67 times for 344 yards.
