Los Angeles Angels place Mike Trout on paternity list with birth of first child looming

The Los Angeles Angels placed Mike Trout on the paternity list Thursday with the three-time MVP and his wife expecting their first child.

How long Trout, 28, will be absent from the Angels' lineup is unknown. The paternity list makes him eligible to miss up to three games, but the nature of the coronavirus pandemic – which has already caused plenty of problems in MLB – might result in a longer period away.

He has appeared in six games so far this season, putting up seven hits, one a home run.

Trout had expressed concerns about playing prior to the season's start due to the pending birth of their child.

"I think the biggest thing is this is our first child," Trout said earlier this month. "I’ve got to be there. If I test positive, I can’t see the baby for 14 days. We would be upset. I’ve got to keep Jess safe. I’ve got to keep the baby safe…

"I try to talk to my wife every night about this. I know I’m risking myself.  I could meet somebody and get this virus. That’s the last thing I want to do.’’

Today the #Angels made the following transactions:
•OF Mike Trout – Placed on the Paternity List
•RHP Kyle Keller – Recalled from Alternate Training Site

In conjunction with Trout going on the paternity list, the Angels announced the recall of pitcher Kyle Keller from their "Alternate Training Site."
