NFL community pays respect to Hall of Famer Kevin Greene following his passing

The NFL lost another great on Monday.

Following the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s announcement that Hall of Famer and pass-rushing great Kevin Greene passed away at the age of 58, the NFL community took a moment to offer its condolences.

Greene played for the Rams, Steelers, 49ers and Panthers (two stints) during the course of his 15-year career. Greene, a multi-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, retired after the 1999 season with the third-most sacks (160) in NFL history.

Statement from Steelers President Art Rooney II on the passing of Kevin Greene:

In memory of Los Angeles Rams + NFL Legend, Kevin Greene.

“I think it was just that I kept that hunger, the chip on the shoulder of a walk-on. I had to scratch and claw for everything I had in life, and to me, it was just about maintaining the commitment to work, to effort, to get where I wanted to go.” – Kevin Greene

The 49ers organization extends its prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Kevin Greene.

A member of the @ProFootballHOF, Greene wore the red and gold in 1997. He registered 10.5 sacks and helped the 49ers win the NFC West.

Just got the news of NFL great Kevin Greene’s passing. He was a fierce competitor during our playing days and one of the most sincere guys off the field. I always enjoyed our visits before the games he was coaching – gone far too soon. #restinpeace
