Oklahoma football has no positive COVID-19 tests for the fourth consecutive week

NORMAN, Okla. — For the fourth consecutive week, no Okahoma football player tested positive for COVID-19

Overall, 186 student-athletes and staff in football, men's basketball and women's basketball were tested Tuesday or Wednesday with no positive tests.

This week, 100 football players and 38 staffers were tested, men's basketball had 15 players and 12 staff tested and women's basketball had 11 players and 11 staff tested.

One active case remains with a women's basketball player, who tested positive July 17 in the initial round of testing as basketball players returned to begin workouts.

Sooners athletic director Joe Castiglione said earlier this week that while things have been great for Oklahoma athletes so far concerning testing, players and staffers must remain vigilant.

"While the tests have been positive, we understand we're only as good as our next test," Castiglione said. "I think if anything, if you look backwards, you give credit to the ones being tested for their behaviors, for limiting their exposure and limiting their risk."

Castiglione said that vigilance will be particularly important as the general student population returns to campus.

"We have to stay patient," Castiglione said. "We have to stay prudent. We have to stay flexible."
