Nico Rosberg believes Angela Cullen’s split with Lewis Hamilton “makes things even worse” for the Mercedes driver as the Brit contends with the ongoing issues on his car. Cullen became a regular sight alongside Hamilton over the years with the physiotherapist playing a key role behind the scenes.
As well as taking care of Hamilton’s training routine, Cullen was also responsible for his travel arrangements, diet, personal logistics and more. More than that, Cullen was a close friend of Hamilton on the grid and one of a few in the Brit’s inner circle.
But Hamilton confirmed this week that their seven-year partnership was coming to an end with both of them penning emotional statements on social media. Cullen said: “It’s been such an honour and pleasure to stand alongside you. I’m so proud of you and everything you have achieved.
“Thank you for supporting me, believing in me and showing me the limitless potential we all have within us. I am so excited to watch the next chapter for you. There’s nothing you can’t do.”
Hamilton has refused to go into more detail on the nature of the split other than insisting it was amicable and the seven-time world champion still regards her as one of her best friends. But not having Cullen by his side in the midst of ongoing issues at Mercedes has Rosberg thinking the split couldn’t have come at a worse time for Hamilton.
“I think that probably makes things even worse,” Rosberg said on Sky Sports. “Even though the split apparently was amicable, Angela was a real friend.
“It’s with your trainer that most of your time during the race weekend you end up also going to dinner with in a very small, tight group – maybe a family member and a trainer and that’s it.

“For Lewis not to have her I’m sure is gonna be not ideal and not so nice. I think that’s probably another challenge he has to deal with and get used to.”
Cullen joined Hamilton’s team back in 2016 and worked alongside him during four of his seven world championships. And Hamilton paid credit to the impact Cullen had on his life on social media.
He wrote: “For the last seven years Angela Cullen has been by my side, pushing me to be the best version of myself. I am a stronger athlete and a better person because of her. So today I hope you’ll join me in wishing her the very best as she takes her next steps to pursue her dreams. Thank you for everything Ang, I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.”
