Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen will once again have Valtteri Bottas to contend with as they compete for pole position for the Qatar Grand Prix. Mercedes’ Bottas was fastest in FP3 on Saturday morning having also gone quickest in FP2 and the Finn is looking to put himself at the front of the grid for the third successive race.
Bottas was three-tenths faster than Red Bull’s Verstappen this morning but the Dutchman will be keen to step up the pace in qualifying in Doha.
Hamilton was second fastest earlier today while AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly has also shown strong speed at the Losail International Circuit, ending P4.
Championship leader Verstappen leads Hamilton by 14 points in the standings and is eyeing another race win to all but confirm himself as the 2021 world champion, with just two races to go after this one, in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi..
But with Mercedes enjoying the superior package so far this weekend, Hamilton will be looking to capitalise with a record-extending 102nd pole position.
