Lewis Hamilton is ‘not talking to anyone’ following the devastation of his controversial loss of the F1 Drivers’ World Championship on Sunday. The Brit missed out on the title after losing the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to Max Verstappen following a thrilling final lap.

Hamilton had led for almost the entire race but a divisive call by the FIA cost Hamilton a record eighth World Championship.

A safety car was deployed following Nicholas Latifi’s late crash and left five lapped cars between Hamilton and Verstappen.

Those cars were initially told they could not un-lap, but that decision was reversed by the FIA. That left Verstappen a free run at the Mercedes star and with fresher, softer tyres, he was able to overtake at Turn 5.

The Dutchman’s success earned him his first-ever title and culminated an incredible season in which the pair’s rivalry had at times spilled over.

And now, Hamilton’s brother Nicholas has provided an update on the 36-year-old. He revealed that Hamilton is not speaking to anyone while he comes to terms with the dramatic finale.

“Is Lewis good? Do you know what guys? I don’t actually know because I haven’t spoken to him,” he told fans in an Instagram live stream on Tuesday.

“I tried to speak to him but I’m just gonna leave him for a bit.

“We all know what it’s like when things are a bit difficult. I couldn’t get hold of him today.

“Obviously my mum and dad are with him and they say he is okay.

“I think he’s just in a place where he doesn’t want to talk to anyone, including me which is fine.

“I know what it’s like. I’ve been in the situation before. Not necessarily fighting for world titles, I bloody wish!

“But when you have a bad day, the last thing you want to do is talk about it. So many people are talking about it, so many people have got an opinion about it.

“Everyone has something to say about it. The last thing that you need is your bro calling you up and talking about it. I can understand it.

“I think he’s on his way home. I think I’ll see him tomorrow. I’ll just give him a big fat Nick hug – give him a good old hug.”

Hamilton was gracious in defeat but felt wronged by the FIA’s controversial decision in the final lap.

An unplayed radio message revealed this week heard Hamilton fuming to his team: “This has been manipulated, man.”

Mercedes have already had two protests rejected by the FIA but have launched a notice of intention to appeal.
