Lewis Hamilton’s brother, Nicolas Hamilton, has launched a furious rant at the FIA for their part in what ended up being a dramatic finale to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It was always expected to be a tense battle with both championship contenders level on points heading into the final race of the season.
But nobody would have predicted what followed with tensions running high in both garages.
Hamilton looked to have sewn up his eighth world title after pulling away from Verstappen, only for a safety car deployment in the final few laps to bring the Dutchman back into play.
Confusion ensued heading into the final lap as the FIA initially stated the lapped cars would stay in formation, with five drivers in between Verstappen and Hamilton.
But heading into the final few corners, Michael Masi announced that decision had been reversed.

Toto Wolff and the Mercedes garage were incensed though with the five cars between Verstappen and Hamilton all being let through.
Hamilton was then powerless to hold off Verstappen, who was running on the much quicker soft compound.
The 24-year-old eventually made his move witha brave dive up the inside as Hamilton had to settle for second.
Red Bull were over the moon as Verstappen crossed the line for his first world championship, while Mercedes and Wolff quickly went about lodging two protests.
After several hours of discussions, the FIA dismissed both protests with Verstappen officially being crowned the 2021 F1 champion.
In the midst of all this, Hamilton had shown his graceful side by congratulating Verstappen soon after the race finished.
Anthony Hamilton was also spotted congratulating Verstappen and his father, Jos Verstappen.
And Nicolas Hamilton has now weighed in on the controversial events which occured in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was proud of the actions from his brother and father, but was equally furious at the FIA’s decision.
Accompanied with a picture of Lewis waving, Nicolas wrote on Instagram: “THE TRUE CHAMPION!
“The FIA broke their own rules, which is a disgrace to our whole sport.
“Nevertheless, regardless of being mistreated today, the Hamilton’s were humble in defeat.
“My father, the guy who raised us, congratulating Max & his father Jos.
“People can say what they like, but my Father’s gesture proves all of the doubters & haters wrong & shows who we are as ‘The Hamilton’s’.
“Proving people wrong is in our DNA, which Lewis does on a daily basis.
“With utter professionalism & decency in defeat, even though we all know, that he was let down by the sport that he has given so much to.
“Congratulations to Max for such a fantastic season from him.”
