Nico Rosberg has revealed that he once 'locked himself in his hotel room' after he suffered a third loss to teammate Lewis Hamilton.
The German didn't secure his first Drivers Championship until the 2016 season after finishing in second in 2015 and 2014.
In 2013, Hamilton shockingly left McLaren to join Rosberg at Mercedes, but the pair didn't see eye-to-eye.
However, a bitter rivalry sparked between the two teammates as they both competed for the number one spot.
And after falling behind Hamilton for a third straight year, Rosberg went to new levels to try and find the motivation to beat his British rival.
"At the time it was like, ‘he’s probably too nice to be World Champion against the ruthless Lewis," Rosberg told The Times Magazine.
"I lost to Lewis three years in a row. And it was so painful, the last time. I locked myself in a hotel room, and I reminded myself to push, push, push like hell. It just enhanced my motivation, my focus.
" went to the wire, to the last corner.
"It couldn’t have been more intense, and winning against Lewis, in the same car, after having struggled against him for decades? It was just so perfect."

However, despite Rosberg not being active in Formula 1, the pair both field teams in the Extreme E series.
