Toto Wolff has been told to rip George Russell’s deal in two as the 25-year-old will take points away from Lewis Hamilton in a future title battle. Russell has starred since joining the Silver Arrows last season with a string of podium finishes and even securing a win.

The ex-Williams star also finished ahead of Hamilton in the Drivers’ Championship last season. But. F1 pundit Peter Windsor now feels Russell has pushed his luck and should know his place in the team.

Meanwhile, Damon Hill has also taken a subtle dig at Jos Verstappen after the Dutchman refused to celebrate Sergio Perez’s win in Jeddah. Max Verstappen’s dad was spotted in a tense mood while Red Bull engineers were in rapturous celebrations for the Mexican.

Wolff urged to sack Russell

F1 analyst Peter Windsor has urged Toto Wolff to part ways with George Russell or get the youngster to sign a new agreement which would prioritise Hamilton.

The expert said Mercedes “didn’t listen” to Hamilton who wanted to keep Valtteri Bottas in the team.

He claimed the German manufacturer should not “play around” and stressed every point would count in a title fight.

Windsor explained: “If I was now drafted in as team principal at Mercedes, I would say, ‘George, here’s the contract, it’s in two pieces now mate.

“If you want to keep driving no problem, sign on the dotted line here and you will never finish in front of Lewis Hamilton. Sorry’.”

Hill takes swipe at Jos Verstappen

Damon Hill has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at Jos Verstappen after he ignored Sergp Perez’a post-race celebration.

When pushed on what it was like working with the former Benetton star, Pedro de la Rosa commented: “Jos the boss. He was a very good teammate actually. We got on very well and never had any problems.

“He was always very straightforward and that’s always what you need from a teammate.”

But, Hill responded: “I’m not sure whether Pedro is being totally sincere here.”
