Eels coach Brad Arthur was filthy with his side for returning to some bad old habits in their shock 38-0 loss to the Rabbitohs.
Parramatta’s defence was brutally exposed by South Sydney’s in-form backline and with their for and against copping a hammering, the Eels are now a chance to miss the top four with the Raiders and Rabbitohs coming home strong.
“It was ordinary,” Arthur said post match.

“We’re not that team at the moment that is prepared to roll up our sleeves and build a game, or we weren’t tonight.
“I am surprised we beat the Storm 14-0. We were not prepared to roll our sleeves up and build our game like we were last week.
“We lacked patience last week and straight away third or fourth set in tonight we lacked patience.
“We’ve got to be able to defend. We can’t say our defence is good if we’re leaking 38 points.”

Most concerning for Arthur was their commitment, which the Eels have prided themselves on this season, but it went out the window against a rampant Bunnies outfit.
“I thought we trained alright, but sometimes you cannot be at your best training and you get to the game and they jump out of their skin,” Arthur said.
“The boys said it was pretty quiet out their on the field, which is not great.

“We will see next week, but for me, it’s an easy fix – go back to owning our effort areas.
“Go back to the team that was prepared to build a game. If it takes us until the 79th minute so be it but that is what we were doing and we need to get back to it.”
Arthur could have been forgiven for thinking that performances like the 38-0 Rabbitohs shutout were behind his team and he understands if people start to write them off as premiership contenders.
Eels press conference
NRL: Listen in to the Parramatta Eels post match press conference.
“That’s people having their opinions and we deserve it on the back of tonight,” Arthur said.
“But things change pretty quickly in a week. But we are the only ones who can do something about it.
“The three games we lost prior I think there was two or four points in it so we could have won those games.
“We were never a chance of winning that game tonight after 20 minutes.”
