Why Payten turned down Warriors
NRL 360: Interim Warriors coach Todd Payten opens up on his decision to turn down the head coaching role at the club, and reveals he has been in contact with the North Queensland Cowboys.
“He has just walked into a team meeting in their camp up on the Central Coast and he will play out the rest of the season at the Newcastle Knights.
“The deal was done late last night about midnight just in time to meet the deadline for player transfers.
“He will play five-eighth for the knights outside Mitchell Pearce and Kurt Mann will go to hooker.
“It is a huge signing for the Knights. They have lost three of their last four games and it could well help them get back on the road to the finals.”
The Warriors would not guarantee Green a deal for next season as they try to lessen the impact of his manager on the club.
