Power off: Cotchin to be rested from Port Adelaide clash

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin will be rested from Saturday afternoon's blockbuster against Port Adelaide in a bid to avoid more soft-tissue issues for the champion midfielder.

Cotchin missed three weeks because of a hamstring strain earlier in this truncated season but has played the past two matches, against the Western Bulldogs (17 disposals) and the Brisbane Lions (15).

Coach Damien Hardwick had raised the possibility of Cotchin not travelling to Adelaide off a four-day break and on Friday confirmed the dual premiership skipper would remain in the club's Queensland hub.

The Tigers then have a nine-day break before returning against Gold Coast at the Gabba on Monday week.

"He won't go [to Adelaide]. He is probably the one player we have put a little bit of plan in place with regards to his injury injury with regards to his hamstring," Hardwick said.

"He won't board the plane but he will, obviously, be right nine or 10 days later."

Hardwick said Cotchin would be the only player rested.
