6 midfielders set to leave Man Utd by 2023 – they must act quick to stop crisis

Manchester United look set to be plunged into a midfield crisis as Donny van de Beek has revealed he wants to leave the club in January.

Van de Beek has struggled for minutes since he arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2020.

And according to transfer-guru Fabrizio Romano, Van de Beek has long since decided that he wants to leave United.

But Van de Beek is not the only outgoing United midfielder at Old Trafford.

And it could leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side thin on the ground if the Red Devils don't identify a series of replacements for their outgoing stars.

As things stand Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata's deals at United are all up next summer.

Lingard has been heavily linked with a move back to West Ham, where he spent last season on loan, and he could cost the side around £10million.

While Pogba remains on the radar of both Barcelona and Juventus, according to numerous reports.

Mata is United's forgotten man, and he has found his appearances fleeting in recent seasons, but the option of the Spaniard as cover will be sorely missed by Solskjaer.

Alongside that trio, Nemanja Matic is also expected to leave in the summer while Fred's contract is up the summer after.

Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes will be a lock to keep their starting roles next season.

But Solskjaer will be looking for a midfielder to balance his side, a role that either Declan Rice or Kalvin Phillips plays perfectly.

Rice looks out of reach for United at the moment, with West Ham reportedly believing that they can offer the same promises of United.

Whereas Daily Star Sport exclusively revealed in September that United are tracking the Leeds midfielder, and the Red Devils could be ready to test the resolve of Marcelo Bielsa.

However, United's biggest problem remains their squad depth.

James Garner and Dylan Levitt were both involved with the club's pre-season preparations, and they could be in line for a call-up.

Even with the two call-ups, Solskjaer may have to dip into the transfer market for another midfielder.
