Arsenal fans have questioned Alexandre Lacazette for his new custom football boots as Mikel Arteta’s side take on Benfica in the Europa League.
The Gunners go into the game with the scores level after the first leg, but their France international forward was named on the bench with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starting.
The 29-year-old has not been shy in showing off his bold fashion sense since joining the club from Lyon back in 2017, and his new design has channelled family film Despicable Me.
The franchise centres on Minions, who speak in a unique language and exhibit childish behaviour, and Lacazette had them as mascots on his boots during training on Wednesday.
One social media user wrote: “These are so trash lmfao.”
A second said: “Arsenal are the weirdest club."
A third continued: “I need to know why a minion is on there.”
With a fourth concluding: “That's the reason why he barely scores.”
Lacazette has scored 10 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions so far this season, but will be out of contract in the summer of 2022 unless he agrees an extension.
“We have not talked about anything related to his contract,” said Arteta.
“I am delighted with the way he has performed because he is scoring, has the form and energy at the moment so he needs to keep doing that.
“We will talk in the summer and make a decision then.”
