Socceroos great John Aloisi will return to the A-League coaching ranks with Western United.
The former Melbourne Heart and Brisbane Roar coach has signed a two-year deal with United, who parted ways with Mark Rudan at the end of last season.
“Throughout the recruitment process, John stood out as someone who reflects the values of Western United,” the club’s chairman Jason Sourasis said.
“His desire to be successful and to create a high performing sporting environment was impressive.
“This appointment complements our goal of achieving sustainable success. “John will build on the foundation already set by our hard-working football department and leadership team.”

Aloisi, who hasn’t coached in the A-League since December 2018, was “grateful” for the chance given to him by United.
“United is still so much in its development stage, being just two seasons in,” Aloisi said.
“In this role, I’m privileged not only to coach, but to be part of building a club and a football future for the people of the west. I look forward to meeting the Western United family soon.”
In other A-League news, former Sydney FC and Melbourne City midfielder Josh Brillante has joined Melbourne Victory after spending last season with Greek club Xanthi.
“The opportunity to contribute in the short term but also to the long-term success of Melbourne Victory is a great opportunity,” Brillante said.
