Antony watches his side rescue a point against Leeds from the stands

‘A day as a fan!’: Injured Man United winger Antony posts video reel of him supporting his team-mates from the Old Trafford stands… as he watches his side come from two goals down to salvage a point against Leeds

  • The £85million signing posted footage of him supporting his side in the stands
  • United came from two goals down to rescue a point against managerless Leeds

Manchester United winger Antony may not have been fit enough to play against Leeds but it didn’t stop him turning out to passionately support his team-mates at Old Trafford.

The £85million summer signing was ruled out of the first of two meetings between the bitter rivals this week with an unknown injury.

It was not his side’s finest day, with Erik ten Hag’s men going 2-0 down thanks to quickfire goals at the start of both halves from Leeds.

But thankfully for Ten Hag, red-hot Marcus Rashford and the returning Jadon Sancho fought back to rescue a point for the Red Devils.

After the game, Antony posted a highlights reel of him watching his team-mates at Old Trafford.

Along with the video, he said: ‘A day as a fan! Congratulations to you for the dedication in the match ! We’re United!’

The footage shows him celebrating both United goals and passionately smacking the wall, while there are also clips of him looking visibly nervous as United push for a winner that never came.

Scoring on his debut in United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal near the start of the season, Antony went on to net in his next two league games, but since then highlights have been few and far between as the Brazilian struggled to build on bright moments.

Three Premier League goals – his last coming against Everton in September – and a goal in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup – has not yet lived up to his sensational price tag.

Fans and pundits have been quick to criticise the player for failing to take on opposing defenders, and constantly relying on his stronger left foot.

However, at 22-years-old, there is a belief at Old Trafford that there is certainly more to come from the former Ajax man.

Antony can certainly take inspiration from Ten Hag’s revival of fellow forwards Rashford and Sancho – who have both overcome dips in form.

Off the pitch, Antony has made headlines for both filming himself driving his £337,000 Lamborghini on Christmas Eve, while also reportedly crashing his £100,000 BMW on New Year’s Eve.

It is not yet clear whether Antony will be fit for Man United’s trip to Elland Road on Sunday, where the Red Devils will hope to put on a better performance.
