Arsenal are expected to make a bid of around £36.5m for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar ‘imminently,’ according to reports in France.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Gunners for much of the summer, although no firm offer has been made, as confirmed by Lyon’s sporting director Juninho.
However, that looks set to change, with French television channel Téléfoot Chaine reporting that an offer of around €40m (£36.5m) is expected from the north London club in the very near future.
Lyon are believed to have valued the young talent at closer to £55m, so there is far from a guarantee that they will accept the bid from the Gunners.
The Ligue 1 side will be willing to let Aouar leave for the right price, but are prepared to stand firm if they believe a fair valuation has not been reached.
Juninho told Téléfoot Chaine of the situation: ‘We have not received anything for Houssem, we have not received anything for Memphis [Depay].’
However, the Brazilian has already admitted discussions with Arsenal over Aouar, as they tried to make Matteo Guendouzi part of the deal but Lyon are not interested.
‘I get on very well with [Arsenal technical director] Edu, we spoke on the phone. Aouar is really appreciated by Mikel Arteta.,’ he said.
‘Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile. We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.’
Arsenal may have to sell more players to fund any deal for Aouar, with Guendouzi joining the likes of Lucas Torreira, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos as available for transfer.
Emiliano Martinez has left for Aston Villa in a £20m deal, although a number of the fringe players are proving difficult to offload.
