Arsenal’s summer transfer plans could be thrown up into the air after Chelsea’s most recent bid for Romelu Lukaku. The Gunners have reportedly been tailing his Inter Milan team-mate Lautaro Martinez, a man who will be firmly out of the shop window if Lukaku makes the switch to Stamford Bridge.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are preparing a £110million bid to truly test the resolve of Inter’s hierarchy.
CEO Giuseppe Marotta had previously labelled the frontman as ‘untouchable’ this summer, but Chelsea are clearly pressing on in their attempts to reunite with their former player.
Lukaku left west London in 2014, and despite now playing the football of his life in Milan, could be on his way out given Inter’s poor financial situation.
The club have already made money this summer after the sale of Achraf Hakimi to PSG, but more is needed if new boss Simone Inzaghi is keen to venture out into the transfer market.

In light of the astronomical fee being offered by Chelsea, the sale of Lukaku would effectively signal the end of Inter’s summer clear-out.
Arsenal had previously shown an interest in Lukaku’s strike partner, Lautaro Martinez, who Inter value at £77m.
The Argentine notched 17 goals and 10 assists last season, before capping off his league-winning campaign with more silverware at the Copa America.
His short, bullish frame has drawn comparisons to compatriot, Sergio Aguero, and we all know how that worked out in the Premier League.

Despite interest from the Gunners, it was reported that Martinez preferred a move to Spain, with Atletico Madrid believed to be in pole position.
However, with one important Inter striker on his way out, the prospect of losing the other in the same window would be unthinkable.
A bigger problem for Mikel Arteta’s side, who are attempting to revamp their ageing strike force, is a fundamental lack of alternatives.
Tammy Abraham has been linked with a move away from Chelsea and rumours which will only accelerate if Lukaku signs, but Arsenal have failed to make progress on a £40m deal.

West Ham have also shown an interest in the Englishman, a club the Blues would presumably be happier to sell to given their rivalry with the Gunners.
Once again, Arsenal’s lack of European football for the coming season has lead to slow progress in their hunt for a striker.
By toying with the thought of moving for one Inter frontman, Chelsea seem to have struck first regarding the other, which threatens to send Arteta back to the drawing board.
