Arsenal fans in meltdown over Gabriel Jesus knee injury and beg ‘sign a striker’

Arsenal fans have gone into meltdown over Gabriel Jesus being ruled out with a knee issue just 10 days before their Premier League opener.

Jesus is absent from Mikel Arteta's matchday squad for the Emirates Cup clash with Monaco this evening (August 2), being replaced in the starting line-up by back-up Eddie Nketiah.

It was reported earlier today he'd picked up a knock on his knee and the club confirmed in a tweet: "Gabby Jesus misses tonight's game due to a knee issue and will be assessed."

Gooners far and wide were soon stressing, with one replying: "This is very bad news!" Another argued: "We need a backup striker…" And a third pleaded: "Sign a striker ffs."

"Hasn’t even played any game yet but injured. Mikel better get us a striker before the season starts," commented a fourth, while a fifth stated: "Arsenal need a new number nine. Jesus is too injury prone."

Jesus missed 15 games across all competitions last season after undergoing surgery on his right knee for an injury he suffered during Brazil's World Cup group stage match against Cameroon.

He was sidelined from December until March, with Nketiah stepping up in his absence. Some fans don't think he's up to the task, though.

And Arteta's other option in Folarin Balogun, who scored 21 Ligue 1 goals while out on loan at Stade Reims last season, wants to leave in the remainder of the summer transfer window so he can get regular game time.

He'd recently been the subject of interest from Inter Milan, but they've been put off by the reported £50million price tag Arsenal chiefs have put on him.

A fifth Arsenal fan therefore responded: "We need [Dusan] Vlahovic please." Before a sixth echoed: "Just keep Balogun or sell and go all out for Vlahovic."

Juventus striker Vlahovic, 23, was previously a target at the Emirates before he left Fiorentina. He's been rumoured to have been offered to Chelsea in a player-plus-cash deal for Romelu Lukaku.
