Arsenal fans have been left emotional after seeing Bukayo Saka score just minutes into his Champions League debut against PSV Eindhoven.

Saka, 22, made his bow in Europe’s elite competition after he helped Arsenal to finish 2nd in the Premier League last season after they fell just short of champions Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s side began their Champions League campaign against Eredivisie runners-up PSV and found themselves a goal up inside eight minutes after Saka reacted first to a loose save from Walter Benitez.

Saka drifted onto his left foot wide of the penalty area before laying it to Martin Odegaard whose powerful strike from the edge of the box stung the hands of Benitez but he could only parry it to Saka who followed in to smash home the opener.

The England international wheeled away in celebration as fans on social media revelled in their star’s success, with one fan tweeting: “A moment we’ve been waiting for since his debut. Bukayo Saka scoring at the Emirates on a Champions League night. Tears.”

A second tweeted: “Congratulations, Saka! Incredible moment for Arsenal indeed!” Whilst a third added: “It had to be the star boy.”

Arsenal soon doubled their lead through Leandro Trossard before Gabriel Jesus added Arsenal’s third in the first-half to put Arteta’s side in control at the Emirates.

The Gunners haven’t played in the competition since 2017 and their return couldn’t have started any better as they look to get an early grip on Group B, which also includes Europa League champions Sevilla and Ligue 1 side RC Lens.

Arteta raised eyebrows on the weekend by giving David Raya his Arsenal debut, and the Spaniard stuck with the former Brentford stopper by leaving Aaron Ramsdale on the bench again.
