Arsenal in talks over Matteo Guendouzi deal ahead of potential Houssem Aouar transfer

Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Marseille over a potential loan deal for Matteo Guendouzi. The Gunners have been looking to get the 21-year-old off the books all summer but they are yet to make a breakthrough.

The curly-haired midfielder was brought in from Lorient by Unai Emery in 2018 and looked destined for a big future at the Emirates Stadium.

Guendouzi was a regular under Mikel Arteta, following his appointment back in December 2019, however, his spat with Neal Maupay in the summer proved to be a step too far and the Spaniard ordered him to train alone.

Arteta and Guendouzi are also said to have clashed while away with the club in February, during a mid-season trip to Dubai.

Now he could potentially be about to leave the club because French outlet Telefoot claim Arsenal are in talks with Marseille over a potential loan.

The deal is said to be complicated though but given Arsenal are open to letting him go, there is every chance it could happen before the October 5 deadline.

Arsenal are set to push hard for his compatriot Houssem Aouar in the coming days.

The Gunners saw an offer of £32million rejected by Lyon but now they intend to up the ante and test president Jean-Michel Aulas’ resolve.

Speaking earlier this summer, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed Arsenal have offered Guendouzi around as part of various swap deals.

“We will have to say what will happen with Guendouzi,” Romano told Arsenal Fan TV.

“They offered him to Italian clubs, also to Atletico Madrid, also to Paris Saint-Germain, they all said ‘no’.

“It’s the same for Inter Milan and Tottenham for Tanguy Ndombele and Milan Skriniar.

“Inter say he is €60m and Tottenham say for me he is €30million but it’s a big problem if you want to do a swap deal.

“The same is happening for Guendouzi. They have made an important valuation on the player of around €40million.

“To go to Paris Saint-Germain, to Atletico Madrid to Juventus offering the player.

“They were looking for a swap deal but couldn’t find any agreement, which I think is normal.

“In this summer, I don’t think anyone will pay €40m for Guendouzi.”
