Arsenal injury news and expected return dates as club confirm Rob Holding blow

Arsenal have released a fresh injury update from their treatment room ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna.

There are a number of notable absentees from the travelling squad to Austria, including Willian and Dani Ceballos.

The pair aren’t expected to be out for long – but Rob Holding is set for a spell on the sidelines.

There are also promising updates on the likes of Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi and Gabriel Martinelli, who are all long-term absentees.

Following Thursday’s game in Europe, Arsenal are next in action against Leicester on Sunday, when they hope to have a number of players back fit.

So here’s your latest injury news and updates from the Arsenal squad.

Pablo Mari

Expected return date: Nov 1

Spanish centre-back Mari is nearing a return from the ankle injury that has kept him out since June.

The club claim Mari is currently doing light ball work and is strengthening, and could be in line for a return with the next 10 days.

Shkodran Mustafi

Expected return date: Oct 22

Another long-term absentee, Mustafi has now fully returned to fitness and has traveled with the squad to Austria.

The German injured his right hamstring during the FA Cup semi-final win back in July.

Rob Holding

Expected return date: Nov 5

Arsenal have confirmed that Holding is expected to be out for around three weeks after sustaining a hamstring strain during the warm-up on Sunday at Manchester City.

Holding has not travelled to Austria, and will receive treatment in London.

Calum Chambers

Expected return date: Nov 1

Versatile defender Chambers is nearing a return to full fitness after months of work on his fitness.

The Englishman has been out since last December when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee at Chelsea.

Dani Ceballos

Expected return date: Oct 25

Ceballos will miss Thursday’s clash after bruising his left ankle slightly.

The Spain international is being assessed ahead of Sunday’s game against Leicester.

Willian

Expected return date: Oct 25

Willian is in a similar boat to Ceballos and has been ruled out of the game against Rapid Wien.

The Brazilian should be in contention for selection on Sunday though.

Gabriel Martinelli

Expected return date: 2021

Young winger Martinelli is now running outside after making good strides in his recovery from a long-term ankle injury.

It is hoped that the Brazilian will be back in full training by the end of this calendar year, so will be eyeing a return in 2021.
