Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has spoken glowingly of Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva after the Portuguese perked the interest of the Gunners during the summer. Henry’s opinion on the future direction of Arsenal could eventually carry extra weight, with the Frenchman cosying up to prospective club buyer Daniel Ek in recent weeks.
Bernardo put in a breathless performance against Chelsea during City’s sensational 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
It was a gutsy display against a top team, particularly considering the 27-year-old was almost deemed surplus to requirements in the summer.
Clearly holding a firm belief in his own ability, Bernardo reportedly turned down a move to the Emirates in favour of fighting for his spot under Pep Guardiola.
Henry, who was in good spirits after watching Sunday’s North London Derby from the stands with Ek, had plenty of positives to say about the Gunners’ former target.

“The way they run, and they have to run, believe me, I’ve been there. If you don’t do it you’re on the bench or in the stands,” he told Sky Sports.
“We’re talking about a guy [Bernardo Silva] who was supposed to leave or was unhappy, but Pep always finds a way to deliver.
“He caught my eye, this is how you win the league. For me, this man was the man of the match.”
Whether Arsenal revisit their interest in Bernardo remains to be seen, with Emile Smith-Rowe and Martin Odegaard both showing promise in their respective attacking-midfield roles.

Henry has been friendly with Ek, Spotify’s co-founder, while he awaits a response to his £1.8billion Arsenal takeover bid. Fellow legends Denis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira have also lent their support.
Whether a role could lie in wait for Henry at his former side is not yet known, but the opinion of one of the club’s all-time greats will always be listened to.
Bringing in Bernardo would be another step forward for Arsenal as their comeback continues from a dismal start to the campaign.
Three successive defeats were followed up by three consecutive victories, crowned off with a resounding 3-1 win over Tottenham in Sunday’s crunch North London Derby.
Fans hold more belief than they have in a long time, and youngsters like Smith-Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale are bringing the feel-good factor back to the club.
Bernardo brings that same intensity, combining a silky touch with incredible work-rate, and recruiting him could be one of Daniel Ek’s first courses of action if his takeover bid is successful.
Henry claimed that current owner Stan Kroenke has not yet responded to the bid, but that prospects of it going through are serious and he would issue the mandate of restoring the club’s identity.
