Bukayo Saka has hinted that he will be staying at Arsenal next season despite rumoured interest from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. The England star seemingly put to bed speculation surrounding his future within a message of thanks to Gunners fans after he was voted the club’s Player of the Season for a second successive year.

Having scooped the award, the 20-year-old expressed his gratitude to Gunners supporters in a video uploaded to Arsenal’s Twitter account. Saka stated: “Hello Arsenal fans, I just wanted to say thank you for voting me as your player of the season again. It’s a real honour to win this trophy and I really feel all your love and support. See you next season.”

The final line in particular is the part that will no doubt have filled Arsenal fans with great hope. Gunners supporters have seen Saka’s future shrouded in uncertainty over recent months as news over a potential Emirates extension has seemingly been slow to get going.

Despite the winger showing no signs of looking to leave North London, boyhood Arsenal fan Saka has been the subject of much speculation as he prepares to enter the final two years of his Gunners deal. Both Liverpool and City have been credited with showing interest in the Arsenal attacker, who is understood to currently be earning a mere £30,000-a-week.

The Gunners are expected to open talks with Saka once he returns from international duty with England and it is anticipated that the club’s contract proposal will see the young star stand to earn £125,000-a-week. The North Londoners are thought to be confident the winger will commit to a new deal, despite the club’s failure to clinch Champions League football for next campaign, and his Player of the Season response will only add to that optimism.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta labelled Saka’s importance to his side as “unquestionable” earlier in the year as he expressed aspirations of tying the star winger down to a long-term deal at the Emirates. He said: “It is a conversation we are going to have with the player, then his agent, his family — [talks] which are going to be extremely important as well — so everybody is on board.

“Obviously, our desire is to keep Bukayo as long as possible, because we are really happy. He is part of our club, our DNA, he is growing, he is maturing. His importance in the team is unquestionable and we want to keep our best talent, that’s for sure.”

Saka scored 12 goals and registered a further seven assists across 43 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last season. The 15-time England international’s exploits have also seen Real Madrid reportedly take an interest.
