Arsenal ‘talent hunter’ in Mexico for winger as agent speaks out amid interest

Arsenal have sent a “talent hunter” to Mexico to watch a young winger – and there could be an opportunity after his agent’s latest comments.

The Gunners have enjoyed a mixed start to the 2020/21 campaign, sitting 12th in the Premier League while looking to make it three wins out of three in the Europa League.

Mikel Arteta’s side have scored 17 goals so far this season as captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leads the way.

The Spaniard bolstered his attacking options with the arrival of Willian this summer.

But 90min have reported that Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of another attacking starlet.

Orbelin Pineda, 24, has been playing in Mexico’s top league over the last six years and is in his third campaign with Cruz Azul.

And he has scored seven goals in 65 appearances for his side since arriving midway through the 2018/19 campaign.

It has seen the Gunners send out a “talent hunter” to look at the forward, who has also provided seven assists for the Mexican side.

The mortal London side have joined fellow Premier League teams West Ham, Tottenham, Newcastle, Wolves, Everton and Southampton in the chase for the Mexican forward, according to the report.

While European sides such as PSV, Porto and Monaco registered interest over the summer.

Local reports did cool down speculation of a move, saying that none of those clubs had made a formal bid for Pineda.

But the winger’s agent has been speaking out, saying they have been approached to “start moving” him to Europe.

Arsenal’s last win came against rivals Manchester United, beating them at Old Trafford for the first time in 14 years.

And Arteta has said that his side are looking to build on the result when they take on Molde at the Emirates Stadium in the Europa League.

This could see academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe get a chance to impress for the Gunners.
