The end of the 2019/20 Premier League season is finally in sight and once Sunday’s final fixture against Watford is out of the way.
Arsenal will start to turn their focus to the transfer market – although the FA Cup final against Chelsea is sure to occupy their minds next week – the Gunners have a lot of work ahead of them.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to strengthen the squad at the Emirates Stadium before the start of next season.
It’s not quite clear how much money the North London club will have to spend, but that hasn’t stopped speculation from swirling.
Here are three of today’s biggest and best Arsenal transfer stories.
Fenerbahce could offer Mesut Ozil an escape route out of Arsenal
Mesut Ozil could be offered an escape route out of Arsenal this summer, with Fenerbahce keen on signing the German playmaker on loan.
The 31-year-old has yet to play a single minute for the Gunners since the resumption of the Premier League season, with it becoming apparent that he has no place in Arteta’s vision for the future at the Emirates Stadium.
Turkish outlet Haberlar claims Fenerbahce are weighing up whether to sign Ozil on loan for the 2020/21 signing, with the club willing to stump up £3 million of the German’s salary.
Arteta has insisted Ozil will be available for selection for the final game of the Premier League season against Watford, but the Spaniard would surely jump at the chance to move on the former Real Madrid man.
Arsenal submit offer for Sporting teenager
Joelson Fernandes is a summer target for Arsenal, with it now believed that the North London club have submitted a bid of £13.6 million for the Sporting teenager.
Journalist Rui Pedro Braz (via Gooner Talk) reports the 17-year-old is refusing to sign a new contract with the Portuguese club, forcing them to consider an offer that would have previously been below their valuation of the player.
Joelson has a £41 million release clause written into his contract, but Sporting might have no choice but to accept a lower offer, with Arsenal optimistic that they can get themselves a bargain.
The teenager has only made four first team appearances for Sporting, but is highly rated in the Portuguese game. What’s more, his agent, Kia Joorabchian, has close ties to the hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal monitoring situation of Espanyol midfielder
Arsenal are among a number of clubs believed to be monitoring the situation of Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca amid suggestions he could be sold on the cheap this summer.
Roca was part of the Espanyol side that suffered relegation from La Liga this season. As a result, the Barcelona side might be forced to sell some of their best players in something of a transfer market fire sale.
Sport (via Sport Witness) claim Arsenal, along with AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Everton and Real Madrid are all keeping tabs on the young midfielder.
As part of the Spain side that won the Under-21 European Championships last summer, Roca caught the eye of many admirers. His stock has dropped after a disappointing season, but is still highly rated by many.
