Arsene Wenger among ‘smartest footballing minds’ for stance on Messi vs Ronaldo

Arsene Wenger's take on the eternal Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate confirms why he has one of the greatest footballing brains.

Fans have praised the former Arsenal boss for his take on the rivalry this week, with Messi crowned Best FIFA Men's Player with Ronaldo scoring eight goals across five league matches at the age of 38.

With the three-time Premier League winning manager initially explaining why he refuses to answer, he told supporters to stop arguing and enjoy the Argentina and Portugal icons.

Speaking at the FIFA Best awards this week, Wenger said: "When they will not be there anymore we will realise what they have given us, both of them. I always refuse to make a hierarchy on that.

"They are two different players. Completely different but two exceptional players who have shown the world for 15 years how great football can be."

One fan simply said in response: "One (of) the smartest footballing minds."

Wenger's comments were similar to those peddled by Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport back in 2019, who played with Ronaldo at Manchester United.

He said: "All the great sportsmen have had that someone else to feed off and this is another great rivalry in football.

"They don’t talk about it, there seems to be respect between them, but they’re just phenomenal to watch.

"People try and make comparisons about who’s better, just enjoy them man."

With many supporters certain that Messi crowned his status as the best footballer of all time while firing Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar, one famous face stayed loyal.

Piers Morgan simply tweeted: "Yes, I agree that settles the debate once and for all… @Cristiano is the [GOAT]."
