Ashley Williams and Danny Gabbidon in stitches wearing Wales hats on Sky Sports

Ashley Williams and Danny Gabbidon donned stylish bucket hats live on Sky Sports after Rob Page guided Wales to their first World Cup since 1958 with a playoff victory over Ukraine.

Gareth Bale's first-half free kick was headed into his own net by the unfortunate Andriy Yarmolenko in the only goal of a tense encounter being watched by Williams and Gabbidon on punditry duty.

The pair made 86 and 49 appearances for the national side respectively and their nerves turned into jubilation after one of the final Qatar 2022 spots was confirmed as Wales just five months before the tournament gets underway.

With the camera cutting back to the Sky Sports studio after full-time, the pair were already wearing the yellow, green and red hats with presenter Dave Jones saying: "…Well."

The trio then burst into laughter with Gabbidon saying: "I've been after one of these for ages! They are like gold dust trust me!"

Jones then replied: "I'm surprised there are any spare, there are so many out there!"

One Twitter user said in response: "Love @Gabbidon35 and Ash seem to work well together and are always good entertainment and talk sense."

With a second saying: "Glorious!!!"

And a third writing: "Top stuff from Ashley Williams and Danny Gabbidon."

Ben Davies was one of many Wales stars to be hailed for their performances on the night, with the Tottenham defender feeling emotional after an intense final few minutes.

He said: "There was a lot of emotion in this game, but we stood up brilliantly. Every challenge they threw at us we dealt with.

"It's incredible, a dream come true, as a squad we've worked so hard for this. We may not have the most talented group but we give it everything we have got."
