Manchester United fans were attacked with bats by Atalanta thugs before their meeting in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are taking on the Italian club out in Bergamo, with a victory required to strengthen their grip on top spot in Group F.
But before their showdown at the Gewiss Stadium got underway, a large section of the travelling United supporters were attacked by Atalanta ultras wielding bats in northern Italy.
Footage circulating online shows a group of Red Devils fans being ambushed at a local bar on Monday night, which reports suggest resulted in two injuries.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, one United fan and a waitress at the bar – believed to be an Irish pub called The Ritual – were injured in the melee.
Atalanta supporters were understood to have been dressed in black hoods and scarves when they launched their attack at the pub.

A 24-year-old waitress was reportedly injured after an object was thrown, meaning she was quickly rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
However, the report adds that her condition is not serious.
Atalanta fans fled the scene before police arrived in Bergamo, where a 24-hour ban on selling alcohol higher than five percent in volume was introduced on Tuesday morning.
The ban applies to shops, bars and restaurants in the city as well as areas in close proximity to the Gewiss Stadium.
United will hope to get off to a better start when they lock horns with Atalanta for a second time this season at their 21,000-seater stadium.
They had to produce a dramatic fightback to record victory over Gian Piero Gasperini's side last month, having initially fallen two goals behind.
