Atletico furious with Arsenal over Partey and relationship is "irreparable"

Atletico Madrid are reportedly furious with Arsenal's handling of the Thomas Partey deal and their working relationship is "irreparable".

The Gunners completed a £110million deal for the Ghanaian on deadline day, triggering the £52.5m release clause written into his contract.

Arsenal also agreed to pay the midfielder a staggering £260,000-a-week for four years and an additional £2.5m up front as a signing-on fee.

Finally, Partey's agent also received 10 per cent commission on the deal.

But Arsenal failed to give Atletico adequate notice before triggering Partey's release clause, which saw them bypass having to enter into negotiations with the Spanish club.

In fact, according to some reports, Arsenal triggered the clause just half an hour before the transfer window slammed shut.

This prevented Atletico Madrid from finding a replacement for Partey in time, and has left the La Liga club with a bad taste in the mouth.

According to The Athletic, the Spanish outfit are said to be 'furious' with Arsenal, with a source adding the relationship between the two clubs is "irreparable".

Uruguay international Lucas Torreira, meanwhile, went the other way on deadline day, joining Atletico Madrid on loan from the Gunners for the season.

The Spanish club do not have the option of signing him permanently come the end of the campaign, and are now unlikely to enquire to do so.
